ESP Zone Panels Make Control of A2L Refrigerant Systems Easy and Effortless

A2L Compliancy

The HVAC industry shift to the era of A2L refrigerants is moving ahead full force. As HVAC professionals adapt to the changes this new era brings, they must also find ways to make the system transition easy and convenient for customers. Enter ESP Zone Panels—the simple solution for optimal system function.

ESP Is Key to A2L Refrigerant Leak Mitigation

One of the most valuable ways the ESP Zone Panel functions with A2L refrigerant systems is in the mitigation of refrigerant leaks. Due to the mild flammability of A2L refrigerants, systems using the refrigerant require a Refrigerant Leak Detection System (RDS) for continuous monitoring. When a leak is detected, the RDS shuts down the heating and cooling functions, and it runs the blower to disperse high concentrations of the A2L refrigerant.

In addition to these steps, all zone dampers must be opened to allow leaked refrigerant to properly ventilate through the space. On the ESP Zone Panel, you can wire the aux/alarm contacts from the RDS to the SPS terminals on the board. When a leak is detected, the contact will close, and the panel receives a signal to drive each damper open in one easy, automatic step for the duration of the alarm.

Essential Points Make ESP Zone Panels Easy to Use

The ease of function of ESP Zone Panels makes them an essential component to keep A2L refrigerant systems running properly and in adherence to industry guidelines.

  • There’s no need for clunky relays or to kill the power to the ESP Zone Panel to integrate the panel with A2L systems.
  • If an ESP Zone Panel is in place prior to an A2L system installation, then most likely, the panel does not need to be replaced. ESP is already set to connect and integrate.
  • An ESP-400 panel add-on board is available to add ESP functionality to any zone panel that uses 3-wire dampers. This allows an easy means to achieve A2L compatibility and break into new markets.

ESP Simplifies Compliance with A2L Refrigerant Systems

As A2L refrigerants reshape the HVAC landscape, the ESP Zone Panel stands out as a solution to simplify compliance, enhance safety, and ensure seamless performance in zoned systems. With intuitive integration, automatic damper control, and flexible compatibility—even with existing setups—the ESP Zone Panel is the ideal choice to make A2L systems easier and safer for contractors and customers alike.

iO HVAC Controls ESP series zone panels can accept a signal from the RDS in order to drive open all dampers when a leak is detected.
